How can we save the environment from pollution?

2018-06-14 Alysia Alston

Pollution is a significant problem affecting most people globally. Most of the people want to preserve the environment, but at times we tend to be lazy or too committed. There is need to look at this aspect as the environment is a place we live in and has to be protected. Pollution is a major topic in most areas but what people fail to put into action is what they discuss. Consequently, pollution is worsening every day. Pollution has adverse effects on our lives such as reduction of human life, earthquakes, etc. Presented below are some of the ways on how to protect the environment.

Decrease of waste

Conservation of waterIn our daily lives, we make use of plastic bags, plastics among others. When dealing with environmental conservation, it is crucial to recycle such things instead of throwing them away. The recyclable products at times might be sent to a recycling company and hence made useful somewhere else. Also, it is vital to purchase reusable items.

Conservation of water

Water is an essential natural source used by everybody worldwide. To conserve it, it is paramount to remember that the water we use in cleaning our houses, vehicles or our bodies will end up in a sewer system and later end up in groundwater. The toxic substances or chemicals have various effects on animals, plants and human beings. In the conservation of the surrounding, it is highly recommended to make use of natural alternatives such as mixing vinegar and water to clean the house.

Water bodies are as well significant, and disposal of trash or any inappropriate substance to the water bodies is inadvisable. This is because the disposed of elements might poison water and hence affecting the aquatic organisms.

Fix any leakages, when brushing your teeth or washing utensil, avoid usage of running water or recycle water.

Educating people

Reminding people of basic concepts on how to take care of the environment is a vital way. One has to take the initiative and learn more about the specific area, observe the primary pollutants and inform people on how to avoid some of the practices. Group formation consisting of various members is vital as they spread the news on the conservation of the environment.

Plantation of more trees

Apart from making our surrounding beautiful, trees are also valuable in the provision of oxygen and clean air. This is the simplest method to undertake. The government at times has to chip in, but an individual can do it. Planting more trees thus is important in the conservation of the environment.

Solar panels

The best way to make use of natural resources such as the sun is through the installation of solar panels on the roof. These solar panels convert sunlight into electricity without causing any harm to the environment. Solar energy is renewable and will not disappoint in any way. The converted heat is crucial to the provision of power and water heating.

The environment is very essential as it is where we live in and if at all we conserve it, we are the ones on the winning end.

What Is The Difference Between Ecology and The Environment?

2018-06-14 Alysia Alston

Ecology and the environment are interrelated areas. However, they are different from each other. This article highlights important information on the differences between ecology and the environment.

Definition

EcologyEcology refers to the scientific study of how organisms interact with each other and their surroundings. This involves their distribution, interaction and abundance. This term comes from the Greek word “Oikos” which means a home and “Logos” meaning the study. Ecology is made up of three subdivisions. The first is autecology, dealing with human relation to the surrounding. Second is synecology subdivision which involves studying of ecological groups and relating to the environment. Third subdivision is habitat ecology, this describes the organisms and the environment. This is an interdisciplinary field that plays an important role in making people gain more knowledge on the ecosystems. While environment refers the surrounding, for instance the physical and artificial factors that enable a living organism to live and grow. The environment is of two types; external and internal. The internal environment is in animals with the outer body surface while external environment is the outside environment. This includes the biotic factors such as plant and animal communities and the abiotic factors include: soil, sunlight, water etc. in general, it deals with the impact humans have on the surrounding.

Area of study

The ecologist in most cases focus on specific type of species such as birds or plants, the primary concern is how human activities impact the species and ways of conserving the environment. They tend to research on populations interaction, reproduction and how they survive in the ecosystem. Ecologists’ concern is factors such as food or preferences in a specific group, how animals are diverse in an ecosystem, various factors affecting the organisms, etc. While in environmental studies, the scientists do not bother about the interruption of other bodies. The scientists deal with a broader area of research as they incorporate various earth and life sciences. They conduct studies to learn more about the multiple factors affecting the region. For example, an environmental scientist can research on the effects of a dry season on the plant species, the impact of humans in an ecosystem, the demand for material and human consumption among others.

Directives undertaken

Ecology answers questions on “why questions” that is theoretical whereas the environmental science deals with “how questions” more on the practical side. Ecology talks of various organisms interacting and how the human beings comprehend, while in environmental science at times might not take into consideration the interaction when dealing with the application of conservation measures.

New strategies for clean energy implementation in our major U.S. cities seem to pop up almost daily. In a time of rising concerns surrounding climate change, there has never been a time where finding efficient and safe energy harvesting methods has been more relevant.

When looking at current technologies, such as solar panels and windmills, it becomes clear that the best ideas take advantage of things already relevant to our current infrastructure. It is also important that suggested technologies be easy to install.

Lately, the idea of using our cities established water pipe systems to generate electricity, through turbine devices installed inside of them, has been gaining popularity. This system would take advantage of a system that is not only already in place, but also relevant to our everyday lives. In addition to our sewage and city water pipes, this technology can be easily adapted to work within any industry that uses free-flowing water systems.

Portland is leading the curve on this initiative, and along with Lucid Energy, has begun working on installing several such pipes throughout the city. These pipes are scheduled to begin their services in March, and public officials have expressed nothing but positive expectations. The current estimation forecasts that the pipes will be bringing in nearly $2,000,000 in renewable energy for Portland over the next twenty years.

These pipes potential is very exciting and could provide the next big step toward a national switch to clean energy only policies. When analyzing this tech, there are several key attributes that make them more attractive than alternatives such as windmills or solar panels.

Non-Weather Reliant

Unlike solar panels and windmills, the underground installation locations of these turbine pipes would allow them to function during any weather. This already gives them a huge advantage over the other technology. In a time where global warming and climate change have even the top scientists questioning what weather patterns might appear, a non-weather reliant energy alternative technology is of an extreme value to our nation.

More Eco-Friendly Than Many of the Alternatives

Since the turbines that would produce the energy are located inside of the pipes and provide their benefits from kinetic energy alone, there is virtually no adverse effect on their surrounding environments. This places the turbine pipes Lucid Energy is proposing as much safer than other similar electric producing alternatives, such as nuclear or hydroelectric energy.

Self-Sustainability

Self-SustainabilityUnlike many of the other energy alternatives, Lucid Energy’s pipe systems can run themselves with almost no outside assistance. When placed in an area where pipes follow a downhill path, the turbines are operated naturally by kinetic energy from downhill flowing water streams. Many other similar technologies need a good amount of outside energy applied to them in order to operate, which offsets the amount of energy they truly obtain. With these turbine installed pipes there will be little input of energy needed in exchange for their impressive output of renewable, clean energy.

Keeping our eyes on only the most promising technology is a necessity in this environment of seemingly endless clean energy strategies. Lucid Energy’s turbine pipes’ relatively inexpensive installation costs, self-sustainability, self-sufficiency, and eco-safeness they seem likely to become the next big thing in clean energy tech. Once the project has had time to run its course in Seattle we will begin to have a clearer picture of how useful the technology can become. Until then it is our responsibility to support such initiatives as much as we can afford to. Clean energy is our nation’s future, and it should be given the priority it deserves.
