Kia Neill: The Transmutation of Domesticity and Nature

Kia Neill: The Transmutation of Domesticity and Nature

Since Cameron Turner interviewed Kia Neill for our second issue, Ms. Neill has been a busy woman.

Neill hails from Houston, and she’s been involved in two recent shows in the city. In September she collaborated with other Houstin-based artists in a group show entitled Spider Woman: A Tribute to Louise Bourgeois at the Darke Gallery. There, she displayed her most recent work, which is said to “draw from craft processes, home décor and the ritual of collecting natural relics and kitsch items…to give surreal form to cultural desires and anxieties, while signifying an evolving mutated interpretation of nature.”

Soon “Boulder”—an installation from the series she exhibited at Women and Their Work in Austin earlier this year—will be available for art lovers to experience at Box13 Artspace in Houston. An opening reception to the collective’s member show What We’re Up To starts at 7pm on November 13th. Box 13 is an artist-run non-profit that supports contemporary art in the city. If you’re in the area, Neill’s vision is definitely worth experiencing in person.
