Badminton – A Historical Perspective

Badminton is an indoor racquet game played using racquets in an enclosed court to hit a shuttlecock over a net. While it can be played often with larger groups, the most popular varieties of this game are “duos” and “teams”. In doubles badminton, there is only one player who plays as a team member. This is usually the team leader who plays the set. Sometimes, there will be two or three sets in a doubles game, where two players are alternated between the set positions. There are several sub-games played during a badminton game, each having its own purpose and different rules.

The game is played in two halves, each lasting approximately four hours. Each half has two games: the first, a pre-quarters game; the second, a semi quarters game; and the final, a grand final game. The matches are best of five unless specified otherwise. The winner of the match will be the player with the highest ranking. The badminton event is also sometimes referred to as ” Philippine national badminton” or “boxing for badminton” by the locals.

Badminton is played in every Olympic Games, with the exception of those that are banned by the IBF. The sport has grown in popularity, especially in countries such as the United States, Australia, Great Britain and Russia. International competitive badminton has even reached the qualification stage of the Olympics, although it is not clear how far any of these nations will go. As of now, the U.S. has the most successful teams at the World Championships.
