All submissions for our Spring Issue are due by April 30, 2010.

The main guideline for submitting work to Precipitate is simply to read thoroughly our statement of purpose detailed in the about portion of this website. Ask yourself if you feel your piece meets our criteria.

Our response time is generally one month, but may be longer. We accept unsolicited simultaneous submissions, given that you promptly inform us upon acceptance elsewhere. If we could pay we would, but we can't. We do not accept previously published material. Precipitate asks for first serial rights and the right to keep your work in our archives; all other rights revert back to the author after publication. We also ask that authors mention that their work first saw publication in Precipitate in future reprints.

Here is a list of practical things that will help us deal with your submission:

Written Submissions to Precipitate

1. While we encourage submissions, each submission must be sent separately in its own email to ONE of the appropriate addresses designated be genre below:

        [email protected]
        [email protected]
        [email protected]
        [email protected]

2. Currently submissions should be made by email only, should be sent in .DOC or .RTF files only.

3. A brief cover letter is helpful but not required.

4. As for length, we have no guidelines.

Photographic Submissions to Precipitate

Precipitate welcomes all kinds of photographic work, in color or black and white, but for photo essays we favor work that lends itself to being published sequentially, either as a series of photographs on the same theme, or as a series that tells a story or reports on an environmental situation somewhere in the world. We are not restricted to traditional photojournalism, or to purely photographic work, but would consider, for some issues, paintings, drawings, film and video stills and graphics.

In submitting pictures, a short description of the idea behind the pictures is helpful, though it is not always necessary to include text with the pictures. Similarly, captions are helpful where appropriate.

Submissions should be made by email only and should be sent in .JPG or .GIF compression. It would also be appreciated if your files were resized to a max of 500 pixels in width or length (which ever is bigger).
