The Basic Rules of Poker

In the game of poker, players place forced bets, known as blinds, before the cards are dealt. Upon receiving the cards, the dealer cuts and shuffles them. In most games of poker, players make a small contribution to the pot before the hand is dealt. This contribution is known as the ante. The first player to make a bet is known as the “better”; a player who matches the previous bettor’s bet is known as the “caller.” In some poker variants, an additional wild card is added to the deck. In any case, a hand with the highest value wins the pot.
